The first edition ProSteer will have force feedback.

As we continue our development journey to bring the evolutionary ProSteer to market we constantly receive feedback from game developers, testers and investors.

As we continue our development journey to bring the evolutionary ProSteer to market we constantly receive feedback from game developers, testers and investors. One comment we keep hearing is that the inclusion of force feedback (FF) will make the ProSteer an absolute world beater as a complete steering controller. We agree, and first investigated FF in 2020. The main issue is creating the necessary power and torque within a compact handheld unit without compromising the mechanical function while avoiding unreasonable battery drain. Many times we have been told that this would be impossible with our size and power constraints, so FF was pushed back for a later edition ProSteer.

The lure of this great (and essential) feature did not go away for our development team however, and our R&D has continued. We now believe we are close to a FF mechanism that can generate the necessary torque from a compact motor. Testing is continuing to ensure this can provide significant feedback across the ProSteer’s range of movement and force feedback development has been re-inserted into our final product design roadmap. The Boxdark development team are now confident that the (first edition) ProSteer will have proper force feedback to compliment 80 degrees of analog steering control!

For those of you who registered as test driver’s – we know things have taken longer than expected and we appreciate your patience. Please stay tuned, we’re planning to have first edition samples for testing at events in November. Keep an eye out for your invite.

people looking at hardware

Hardware is hard. This old cliché is very well known in the startup community. Apart from the obvious truth that any startup project is a difficult task, I want to investigate some of hardware’s traditional challenges and some new challenges that have changed the hardware startup landscape in recent years.

When the ProSteer was first conceived and Boxdark was incorporated we were very aware of the Mission Statement and its importance to a start-up. After all, I had been a Corporate Adviser to many start-ups in my previous business - Harvest Business Growth Partners, and we certainly espoused the use of a Mission Statement as a grounding force in the often turbulent waters of early stage innovative business. This all-encompassing statement was a tool to focus, guide and help founders hold course, return to source or pivot as times dictated.
